The KIDS-N-CO production of "Anti-Social"

Social media is a very fascinating feature of our every day lives. Although we may not realize it, it changes how we behave and treat other people. The show that is currently being produced by El Paso Kids-n-Co at the First Presbytarian church is a highly enjoyable show that is titled Anti-social, which is a series of vignettes written by Don Zoildis that outlines the authenticity of different forms of social media, such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, MySpace (whomst?), and Pinterest.

While the show isn't particularly layered, it is still a pleasurable show to watch for the interesting writing and fun performances coming from each member of the company. The show was cast very well, with the standouts being Jonathan Cantrell, Sidnee Coder, Lauren Cook, Jazmin Jimenez, Romanti-ezer Mata, Emily Medina, and Marianne Vacios. The performances of all of the people I just mentioned were appropriately funny, believable, and they shined in each role they had in every vignette. Director, Raul Chavez, assembled a cast that was the perfect mix between adults and children. Even though the company is called KIDS-N-CO, the adults were as prominently featured as the younger cast.

Each of the amusing vignettes were nicely done, but the standouts were titled "Trollz", "Followers", and "Pinterest is Totally Not Making You Ashamed of Your Life."  Don Zolidis' script was relatable and comedic. I have not seen too much of his work, but out of his work that I have seen produced, he is a very clever playwright with a knack for zaniness. The show was nicely directed by Raul Chavez and appeared to go off without a hitch. Chavez's blocking was mostly well paced and kept the action moving at an appropriate speed. Although the show was well over an hour long, it felt like I was watching the show for what was maybe 30 minutes.

The scenic design by Patrick Marshall and Ericka Moeller was simple and nice to look at. The scenery was decorated with parody logos of each form of social media, such as Facebook, Snapchat, etc. Anti-Social was quite a gratifying evening of theatre with many memorable scenes and cast members. The production has now closed, but it was quite an entertaining show that was well directed, written, and cast. You cannot go see it anymore, but if you could I would tell you to do so.
