"Idina" and "The Art of Elegance"

As many of you already know, last week stage greats and original "Wicked" witches, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel both coincidentally released albums on the same day. Chenoweth's is a jazz album titled "The Art of Elegance", which features Chenoweth singing classic songs such as "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" and "I've Got a Crush on You". Menzel's self titled album is made up twelve original pop songs, and she says that this is her most personal album she has ever released. With that being said, let's go ahead and take a look at both women's albums.

Idina Menzel's album, simply titled "idina." is what you might call her true breakthrough into the pop world. This is her fourth studio album, and third pop album, the most recent pop album being "I Stand" (2008). "idina." has some really great songs on it. Throughout her creation of this album, Menzel went through divorce at the highest point of her career, so far. The songs on this album really capture and give us a sense of what her personal and professional life has been like for the past few years. The strongest songs on the album are "Everybody Knows". "I See You", and "Queen of Swords." Menzel's album contains some of her best stand alone songs and does a wonderful job showcasing the glorious gift that is her voice. If you do not buy this album, then what is wrong with you?

Kristin Chenoweth's album, "The Art of Elegance" is simply....well, elegant. The first time I listened to the album, I gave a perfect synopsis of the album to one of my friends and I can think of no other way to perfectly sum it up, so here is what I said: "It makes me want to shop at Kirklands and then throw a classy party in a ballroom with pink lemonade and fancy alcohol." I guess that's just what this type of jazz music does to you. My favorite songs on the album are "Let's Fall in Love" and "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart", both songs are both beautifully sung by Chenoweth and they are so smooth, energetic, and tender all at the same time. Although we have heard her voice on a million different songs, Chenoweth's voice is still a breath of fresh air and is definitely at her strongest on this album. I 100% recommend that you buy this album. It is perfect for almost any occasion. If you really want to listen to Christmas music, but feel it is too early, then Chenoweth's arrangement of these songs will give you almost the exact same effect. Go buy it.

Which album is better, you ask? To that, I say...DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE. It is really unfair to compare the two albums, that'd be like comparing Taylor Swift to Whitney Houston. If you really want to know, then go listen to both albums and you will soon find that you will not be able to choose either.
