Hello all! In honor of the 30th Anniversary of Les Mis in a few weeks, I will be doing review of all of the cast recordings (that are in English), both annivers ary concerts and the 2012 movie. A new review will come out each day leading up to the day of the 30th anniversary which is on October 8. The first review will be posted on October 2. I will see you all in 7-10 days when I am done watching/listening to every single cast, version, etc. of Les Miserables.                                              

   I often try to brainstorm ideas to bring more readers to this blog, and ways to stay active on here.  So.......      First of all, I am going to create a Facebook page for this blog, where I shall post fun theatre related stuff, as well as links to my reviews.    To keep more reviews coming, I am going to start reviewing cast recordings!    As a for fun thing, every year I am going to start doing an annual "awards show" (more info to come in next blog post)   Last, I think I have enough social media connections to start doing interviews with professional performers. Thank you for reading my list of updates.

  Tonight, I saw the El Paso Community College production of "American Idiot". I saw the touring production of this show almost 2 years ago now, and I don't remember it being so GOD AWFUL.   Its not really this specific production, I could see any production of this show and say that it is a HORRIBLE SHOW! The plot is everywhere, the music is meh, and there's so many elements to the show that are pointless and weird. After a couple songs, I hated it. The plot to "American Idiot" as interpreted by Justin: "So it is about these guys who go into the military, but then they get hurt and there is also this pregnant girl and a whole line up of characters that have nothing to do with anything".   It's not the people onstage,  it's really not. There is a lot of talent on that stage but their talent is so misused, Most of that is because the sound ruined it for them. Everyone was extremely talented, but no one really stood out.          Today, I saw a production of "Pippin" at the UTEP Dinner Theatre.   This was my first time seeing Pippin and I did think it was good. I did enjoy it, I really did. But, most of all...I THOUGHT IT WAS A WEIRD SHOW. During the intermission, that is the only word I had for it...weird.   The cast was certainly the best part of the show. I didn't think that there was a weak link.    Ricardo Parra was spot on in the role of Pippin. I don't know if it is just me, but there were some scenes where he came off as a bit bratty. He had a strong voice and gave a very enjoyable performance.   Allen Thompson was cast perfectly in the role of the Leading Player. He was a wonderful singer and actor and it was very fun too watch him.   I also enjoyed watching Emilie Merritt in the role of Catherine.
